What Gives 03:05
“What Gives” Written by Kristie Stremel Recorded and Performed by Kristie Stremel, Exit 159, The One59ers Say I'm all right, everything is cool and okay So turn out the light, Watch my world slowly slip away With everything I try so hard, and this is what I get So what gives? - Yeah What Gives Oh I've been damned Say I'm okay, but nothing ever seemed to go my way So hold on tight, this is gonna be one hell of a ride When everything’s in everyone and if it starts to come undone I would never find my way to you When everything is said and done, I could never be that strong I would never be that cool to you With everything I try so hard, and this is what I get So what gives? - Yeah What Gives? Oh what gives? - Yeah what gives? Oh I've been damned (solo) So what gives? So what gives? So what gives? So what gives? When everything’s in everyone and if it starts to come undone I would never find my way to you When everything is said and done, will I ever be that strong I would never be that cool to you With everything I try so hard, and this is what I get With everything I try so hard, and this is what I get So what gives? - Yeah What Gives? Oh what gives? - Yeah what gives? Oh I've been damned. Oh I've been damned Oh I've been damned. Oh I’ve been...

Baby you were so right, I fell right to sleep When I woke up, you were next to me I’ve been wasting my time, trying to fix everything All this weight on my back, it was hard for me This is the easiest thing, this is the easiest thing This is the easiest thing I’ve ever done City to city I go, radio stations, the shows And the heat in the van it won’t work, and I’m so cold Yeah we’ve been driving all night, and somebody’s picking a fight I’m in the back seat tonight just laughing, and laughing Cause this is the easiest thing, this is the easiest thing This is the easiest thing I’ve ever done (guitar solo) Baby you were so right, I fell right to sleep When I woke up, you were next to me This is the easiest thing, this is the easiest thing This is the easiest thing I’ve ever done

I’m moving my things more than I move you anymore Can’t hardly sleep in my bed, so I sleep on the floor When will I hold your hand and when will I understand? Wouldn’t believe what I’ve done while you were away I thought that I would give up, but I made it today I want to hold your hand, I want to understand It’s a strong wind that keeps me away from you It’s a long way, but I know what I can do It’s a cold one you keep me walking through It’s a strong wind that keeps me away from you (guitar interlude) Where did you go, where are you? Hey, how have you been? I was just thinking how you were my very best friend Yeah there’s nothing to understand, I just want to hold your hand It’s a strong wind that keeps me away from you It’s a long way, but I know what I can do It’s a cold one you keep me walking through It’s a strong wind that keeps me away from you It’s a strong wind that keeps me away from you It’s a long way, but I know what I can do It’s a cold one, you keep me walking through It’s a strong wind that keeps me away from you

I guess that you, yeah, you didn’t know And I guess that I never said so I’m packing my things; yeah it’s time to go The band is waiting hey pick up the phone Cause I feel like a dirt red liar trying to steal your heart from him Hey I want to be the one to hold you, got to feel that love you give, do it again Everything’s changing, it’s going slow And this reputation, well I have to hold But I want to tell you everything I want to be your everything Cause I feel like a dirt red liar trying to steal your heart from him Hey I want to be the one to hold you, got to feel that love you give, do it again (guitar solo) Cause I feel like a dirt red liar trying to steal your heart from him Hey I want to be the one to hold you, got to feel that love you give, do it again Cause I feel like a dirt red liar trying to steal your heart from him Hey I want to be the one to hold you, got to feel that love you give, do it again I do it again, hell yes

Hey I know that we just met, haven’t heard your story yet, it’s new It’s permanent it won’t come off, stuck me didn’t hurt at all, it’s true I kind of like being with you Oh, it’s such a lazy day, do you want to go and play, I do Man, this is my favorite song, yeah I put my glass on for you Cause I kind of like being with you I kind of like being with you I kind of like being with you (guitar solo) I should have left a couple hours ago, cause this party starts at two I should be leaving, should be ready to go, I wish I could make this true Cause I kind of like being with you I kind of like being with you I really love being with you

Gonna make some money and marry you That’s what I’ll do Gonna do the things I didn’t do Like dance with you You know I will, you know I still Am reaching for your hand And maybe I’ve got nothing to prove But jump with you And you can do anything Like someone on a movie screen And I could fall anywhere Cause I know you’d be there You know I will, you know I still Am reaching for your hand And baby I’ve got nothing to lose But jump with you And there’s water below us And friends all around We don’t have to look up We don’t have to look down Everything’s changing, but god, yeah, I still feel the same I’m reaching for your hand I’m getting real close Everything’s different I’m losing control I don’t know where this will stop But does it have an end? I’d jump with you I jump with you

"The Detour EP"
This 6-song offering was recorded on a shoestring budget. Since the Frogpond and Exit 159 records, four years in smoky bars and loud, distorted guitars… this was the first time Kristie put down the electric guitar and traded it for a Taylor acoustic guitar.
